Residents at the Grenfell Tower in London were banging on their glass windows shouting “Help me, I am stuck” but onlookers can’t do anything because the building was already engulfed in flames and smoke. Some residents tried to open their windows but their hands were burned by the melted plastics. While many managed to escape the inferno, some unfortunate residents lost their lives.
After a panic-stricken 24 hours, music mogul Simon Cowell was able to compile an A-list group of names to record the classic Simon and Garfunkel Bridge over Troubled Waters to raise funds for the Grenfell Tower victims. BridgeOver Troubled Waters was the biggest hit single of Simon and Garfunkel and often considered as their signature song. It became one of the best-selling singles and the most performed song of the 20th century.
Simon Cowell has confirmed that One Direction Liam Payne, The Who, Emile Sande, Louisa Johnson, Craig David and James Arthur will be featured including London rappers Skepta and Stormzy. The X-Factor boss hopes that more names will be added to the list ahead of the scheduled recording. Cowell also said that they have barely started 24 hours ago and yet they are receiving so many calls mainly from Brits.
A lot of London artists want to be involved in the recording including the London Community Gospel Choir. Simon Cowell also revealed that even rival music labels like ITV are screening the music on primetime next week in order to help the cause. Simon also reported getting calls from David Joseph and Max Lousada at Warners. Simon sent them an email and they rang back to say that they will do whatever they can to be able to help.
Simon Cowell was determined to raise money for the victims through music. The charity single will be recorded at SarnStudios which is about half a mile from the Grenfell Tower.
